We created The Vintage Ring Company to bring a little more ease, joy and storytelling into the way we buy pre-loved engagement rings. We’re so glad you’re here.
Genuine vintage, sold with proof and compassion

Goldsmiths' Company authenticated
The Goldsmiths' Company is one of the oldest craft guilds in the world, with roots in 14th-century London. Every pre-loved ring we sell here is assessed independently by a valuer at The Goldsmiths' Company first. For each vintage jewel they create a unique certificate of authenticity that confirms its era of origin, metal, gemstone quality, and condition. It's the single most credible independent verification available in the antique jewellery market.

Free resizing included
The most common concern about buying antique jewellery is whether it will fit. We remove that worry entirely by offering a complimentary resize of your ring once you've received it and tried it on.
We send every ring with a simple at-home ring sizing kit and guidance on how to return it to us for adjustment if necessary. Once receiving your ring, we'll aim to have it resized and returned safely to you within the fortnight.

The environmental case for vintage jewellery →The eras of vintage jewellery
Understanding the age that a piece of jewellery originates from helps you to appreciate its character and longevity. Each period spoke its own design language, favoured certain materials, and captured a zeitgeist. Our collection of pre-loved rings spans four key epochs:

Victorian (1837 - 1901)
Romantic motifs of knots, hands, hearts and flowers. Vivid yellow gold. Deep-hued cardinal gemstones.

Edwardian (1901 - 1910)

Every ring we sell comes with a Goldsmiths' Company certificate of authenticity, independently issued and specific to that ring. The certificate is signed and stamped proof of assessment by a registered valuer at the London Assay Office and confirms the era, metal content, stone quality and condition of the ring in question. Don't just take our word for it; enjoy the satisfaction of receiving your vintage ring with its very own official passport.
The certificate records the ring's estimated date of manufacture, the metal and its purity, a description of the gemstones and their quality, and a general condition assessment. The Goldsmiths' Company is one of the oldest craft guilds in the world. Their authentication is widely regarded as the gold standard for antique jewellery in the UK.
These two pieces of documentation serve different purposes and should not be confused.
Created, signed and stamped by the Goldsmiths' Company, our certificate of authenticity confirms exactly what a piece of jewellery is - from its metal purity to the quality of its gemstones, its era of production and its condition. It carries independent, third-party credibility that no in-house document can replicate.
Meanwhile, an appraisal estimates what a piece of jewellery is worth, assigning a monetary value to a piece at a specific point in time. Typically used for insurance or resale purposes, appraisals are useful but are generally opinion-based - their value depends entirely on the credentials of the appraiser.
When buying a vintage ring, a certificate of authenticity is the more important document for establishing trust in the piece itself. Whilst an appraisal can always be obtained later, independent authentication from a body like the Goldsmiths' Company cannot be retrofitted.
Yes. Every ring purchased from The Vintage Ring Co. comes with one free resize included within the first year of purchase - and any subsequent resizes charged at a small fee. We'll deliver your unique ring unsized in the first instance, packing a ring sizing kit in your parcel so you can measure your ring size at home. If you need to adjust the size of your ring after receiving it, we can facilitate this.
Most antique and vintage rings can be resized, though the extent of adjustment possible depends on the design, size and structural integrity of each individual piece. If you have any questions about a specific ring, we're happy to advise before you buy.
Yes. Buying a vintage or antique ring is on of the most sustainable choices you'll ever make in fine jewellery, because no new mining is required for its existence. The precious metal and gemstones already exist: they were mined, refined and crafted generations ago. Choosing a pre-loved ring means no new land is disturbed, no new water used, and no new supply chain created. Every ring in our collection is conflict-free by nature, continuing its cycle of life by way of our collective responsible decisions. For anyone seeking a ring that is genuinely gentle on the planet, reclaiming an antique or vintage piece is the straightforward answer.
Strictly speaking, 'antique' means 'made at least 100 years ago'. Vintage is a looser term, generally used for pre-loved pieces made between 20 and 100 years ago. We use the word 'vintage' in our name to mirror how it's used on the jewellery world; to signal old, genuine and pre-owned.
The Vintage Ring Co. was founded in 2018 by Arabel Lebrusan (trained goldsmith and gemmologist, award-winning jewellery designer and ethical jewellery pioneer with her very own TEDx Talk on responsible sourcing) and Claire Roberts (a jewellery editor and journalist with more than 20 years of experience in luxury publishing). Together they combine gemological expertise with editorial rigour in curating the collection.
